Planning Worksheets for Kids – Before creating the worksheet for children, it is important to understand why the worksheet is being made. Is there a message to be conveyed? Can students record information that can be understood later? Is it being created to just teach a basic concept to little children? A well designed worksheet will make its objective clear.
It is a lot easier to teach your child or to help them with school homework if they have had experience of learning in the home. Very often moms teach their children a lot of skills without actually realizing that the fun they are having is a great way for a child to learn. Simple games like spotting the number of red cars while out on a shopping trip or playing about with words by making up silly rhymes all contribute to your child’s education.
Children can work with simple numbers worksheets from quite an early age and you will have greater success in getting them to work on the worksheets if you combine that learning work with something practical, or at least something they enjoy doing. For example, if you are using a simple addition and subtraction worksheet with your child, draw or type up another sheet of with squares and numbers printed onto them. Instead of writing the answers to the questions on the worksheet you can get your child to cut and paste the required numbers for the answers from from the second worksheet onto the first.
However, while they can be a helpful tool and seem like an attractive alternative to a home-school, they do have a number of limitations. They cover practically all subjects under the sun. Different home-school worksheets are available that are suitable for all types of curriculum, and they can help enhance what you are teaching.
While worksheets for home-school can assist in home schooling, they cannot take the place of a proper home-school curriculum. One disadvantage they have is that they often focus on one subject area only, without integrating the whole curriculum. They can also be simplistic and give the impression that the student understands more than he actually does.
A good scope and sequence book will break down math into each area and you’ll know what your child needs to accomplish for that school year. Use this book as a guide as to which multiplication worksheets you should print off. If your child is just beginning to multiply multi-digit problems without carrying, don’t make the mistake of giving her worksheets that have carrying. It will most likely throw your child for a loop and she will become upset.
